Emerging market consumers drive shift in trade patterns

Strong domestic consumption in emerging markets, at a time when developed nations are tightening their belts, is accelerating the shift in global trade patterns. Economists predict imports will grow faster than exports in emerging markets over the next five years while global trade will expand 4.7% annually over the next 15 years for a total advance of 98% over the period, compared with a previous estimate of 99% trade growth made in February.
